The development of incapacity legislation in Scotland

In the first episode, we hear from Adrian D Ward MBE who sets the scene by giving an overview of the history and development of the AWI Act. Adrian is a solicitor who is a recognised national and international expert in adult incapacity law, convener of the Mental Health & Disability Committee of the Law Society of Scotland, expert adviser to the Centre for Mental Health & Capacity Law at Edinburgh Napier University and has written extensively on this subject.

Anne’s story

Assessment of capacity and Consent to treatment for Advanced Nurse Practitioners

In this sixth episode we will hear from Dr Donald Lyons, former Chief Executive at the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland, who returned to the Commission for a spell as Interim Senior Medical Adviser. Donny was involved in the development and implementation of the AWI Act, notably the medical treatment provisions and today he will talk us through the history, present day challenges and what is on the horizon with upcoming reforms.
